Sales Résumé Teardown: Less is more!

Welcome to the résumé teardown! We’ve taken a real applicant looking for work in sales and asked Charlie Nelson, Director of Business Development & Client Success at SmartRecruiters to offer his critique. As someone who hires sales and account managers, Charlie has plenty of experience reviewing applications for entry-level sales positions.

Lesson learned? Less is definitely more, especially for entry-level résumés. It’s great that “Ivana Job” has so much experience and so many achievements, but they got lost in this massive document. Choose the information that’s most relevant to the job you’re applying for and you’ll ensure your accomplishments really get noticed.

Homework time! Give your résumé a quick length check. Are there any portions that can be removed or consolidated?
