So you’re starting your senior year in college? Congratulations! I probably don’t have to tell you that you’re perched on the edge of a giant roller coaster. Classes, finals, friends, parties, maybe a senior project or thesis thrown in for good measure. And in the midst of all that, you’re also supposed to start looking for a job? Yikes.
I know at this stage it might not sound doable, but I’m going to help you through it. Think of me as your fairy job-mother. This entire series is dedicated to providing you with advice, tools, and resources to help you along each step of the job search. I won’t ask for too much from you—I’ll just appear in your inbox once a week if you sign up on AfterCollege. You know you want to. Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Go to AfterCollege.com
Step 2: Enter your school, major, and graduation date in the red box, then click on “Explore Now.” Peep the image below.
Step 3: After you click on “Explore Now,” you’ll be prompted to “Sign In” or “Sign Up” (shown in the beautiful screenshot below). If you’ve never used AfterCollege before, select “Sign Up.”
Step 4: You’ll be magically whisked away to a sign-up page (shown below), where you’ll be asked to enter your name, email address, and a password. Let me take this opportunity to say that your privacy is über-important to us and we will not share your information with a third party without your permission.
And that’s it! If you’ve indicated that you’ll be graduating this year, you’ll automatically get access to the Job Search Survival Kit. We’ll send you a digest email at the beginning of each week with the link to each week’s content. You’ll also be able to see what the latest post is every time you log on to AfterCollege (which, of course, we hope will be like a bajillion times a day).
Q: How much does the Job Search Survival Kit cost?
A: It is totally free! Woohoo!
Q: I’m not a senior, but I still want to check out the Job Search Survival Kit. How can I do that?
A: Don’t worry, non-senior, we haven’t forgotten about you. You can access the content of the Job Search Survival Kit by checking out that category on the AfterCollege Blog. You’ll find it on the upper right-hand corner of the page. Just click on that link and it’ll take you to everything that’s been published so far.
Q: I signed up for AfterCollege a while ago and I’m a senior, but I haven’t been getting the digest emails. What’s up with that?
A: There’s a good chance that you changed your communication settings at some point. In order to update them, go to “My Profile,” then click on the “Communication Settings” menu. You can then opt to receive the email digests on a daily or weekly basis. Voilà! You’re back on track!
Q: Are you sure this is free?
A: Yes, absolutely. We never charge students or universities for our services, because we are awesome that way.
Q: What is AfterCollege?
A: How sweet of you to ask. AfterCollege is a resource to help college students and recent grads explore jobs and companies. We ask you three simple questions: Where do you go to school? What’s your major? & What’s your graduation date? We use that information to suggest jobs and companies that we think would be a good fit for you (like how Netflix, Pandora, and Amazon make suggestions to you based on your past behavior). But, as I mentioned earlier, we never share your personal information without your permission. If you want to learn more about us, stop by our About page.
How’s your job search going so far? What’s your strategy for fitting it in senior year? Do you have any big questions you’re not sure how to answer? Let us know. We’d love to hear from you! Drop us a line at blog AT aftercollege DOT com
